Our mission…
... to provide lodging and ancillary services to our guests, maintaining a high level of comfort, quality of service and recreational opportunity, while ensuring minimal impact of our operation and guest activities on our surroundings and the environment overall.
Our goal…
... to encourage our visitors to slow down, relax and enjoy our pristine wilderness. To practise what we preach and convince our guests, the general public, regulatory bodies and the hospitality industry overall that viable alternatives exist to lifestyle, traditional construction practices, conservation standards and business management.

Our actions…
... are driven by environmental acceptability as much as profitability. We support organizations and activities that further conservation and sustainable development and include environmental responsibility as a key criterion for corporate decision making and choosing our suppliers and partners. We donate more than 2.5% of our GROSS room revenue to charitable causes.
Our name…
... Aurum (Lodge) was derived from the Latin word for gold. We firmly believe that there are values in life, which cannot be measured in monetary terms but are equally precious: among them are a healthy, unpolluted and intact environment and peace of mind!
About eco-tourism…
We see eco-tourism as the conscious effort by hosts and guests to reduce the adverse impacts of travelling to / in natural areas, thus ensuring minimal damage or alterations to habitats, local eco-systems and species diversity.
The Aurum Lodge project was started in 1999 with the objective of becoming an environmentally sound tourism operation. We have chosen a location in one of the few remaining unspoiled regions on the eastern slopes of the Canadian Rockies and are committed to help keep it that way, by offering a destination resort which incorporates environmental thinking all the way from design, through construction and management.
Awards and Certifications…
Within three years of opening, Aurum Lodge obtained a variety of ratings and awards: 5 green leaf Audubon Green Leaf Eco-rating; Finalist for the 2001 Alberta Emerald Awards; first ever ALTO (Alberta Tourism) award for sustainable tourism; 2002 Pollution Prevention Award by the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment; Green Globe 21 certification.
An independent energy conservation assessment confirmed our fossil fuel use to be 15-20% of a comparable operation built and managed with conventional methods.
